republican congressman jim jordan yesterday, but today, late in the day, starting to seem like speaker boehner's fortunes were changing. his debt ceiling proposal was reevaluated by the congressional budget office and he pitched that plan to republicans in the house with some very persuasive language, as he explained on right wing radio this morning. >> is it true that you told some of the republican members this morning that you need to get your a-word in line behind this debt ceiling bill? >> i sure {did. listen, this is time to do what is doable. >> joining us now from washington, for the very latest is john stanton, reporter for "roll call" newspaper, nice to have you, john. >> good to be here. >> so, i find myself in the strange position of actually sort of rooting for john boehner here, for him to do well, for him to have a better day today than he had yesterday. do you think it's fair to say that he, in fact, did have a better day today? >> compared to yesterday, certainly. i think today it would have been hard for him to have a worse day, frankly, than he did yesterday.

process. jim jordan if the republican study committee and the other house conservatives, the freshmen need to come up with some plan that they can pass through their membership. that their membership can get behind. other conservatives in the house can get 218 votes. it's most likely going to be a version of something that charles floated in his column where it was a sort-term extension. but i think that they can get creative about this. you can include biden cut, attach biden cut to short-term extension. include certain aspects of medicare reform. that have already passed in the ryan budget. medicaid reform, medicaid to the state which has support of democratic governors. i think there are ways to get creative. where they have 218 votes to present something to the president and say look, you've come out in favor. the president in leaks from the white house at least endorsed certain changes to medicare reform. make him own it if he is going to. >> bret: the gang of six presented the house democrats and they are seen as key. if you get all the house democrats on board, you onl

his interview with jim jordan and chris van hollen. you had a mini summit of your own. >> jim jordan, a lot of people may not know who he is, but the republican tuddy committee represents three-fourths, three-fourth of the house republican caucus are members. and also, chris van hollen, the top democrat on the house budget committee. i think that the biggest news is that a lot of people think that the mcconnell fall-back plan, allowing the president to take the heat and get his debt increase past the election without, at least with the possibility of no spending cuts at all is going to get through. jordan basically said over his dead body. he said i am not going to vote for it. and the house republican caucus won't vote for it, which raises the question will there be enough votes for that? if that, which is considered the fallback doesn't pass, i don't know where we are come august 2. >> that is a spirited debate. it continues. didn't get solved but see if we made inroads with the sides. you have someone who is turning out to be the interesting story of the 2012 race. herman cain contin
